Question:

Why do I do this??

When someone older than me is talking towards me kinda harshly. . . and saying harsh words, for some reason I can't look at them directly for too long. And when I try my eyes just blink or something. . .lol I'm usually good at staring people down, but when they talk about punishing me or something, I look away...

And I wouldn't put up a fight/fuss about it. I'm not afraid of facing consequences. . . I don't know what it is. I wish I could look at them directly.

  1. This is a form of submissiveness.  It's a divine quality, and associated with grace.  Accept it.  You are a good person.

  2. I think you're handling yourself fine.  If you try to stare down an adult while they're reprimanding you, they could get mad at you for being disrespectful.

Your tendency to want to look down is actually a very natural reaction.  If you yell at a dog, it will put its head down and its tail between its legs.  It's a way of being submissive and nonverbally saying "I'm sorry, don't be mad at me."

If it really bothers you, try and see if you can look at them for a few seconds. I know it can be hard to do, especially if you feel like you want to cry.  Take some deep breaths and if you feel upset, just look away again.
