My daughter gets sick a lot and I feel horrible for her going through a bunch of infections and viruses. Since February the longest time she hasn't been sick was a month. She has had recurring ear infections, throat infections, colds, recurring geographic tongue. But what I don't understand is, why does SHE constantly get sick when I see other parents who let their kids eat off the floor, don't even wash their hands after coming in contact with other children. I wash her hands before she eats, I don't even have her come in contact with a lot of people because the risk of her getting sick.

Now I know getting sick is a part of life, I just don't see why other kids don't get sick half as much as my daughter does...Does she just have a weak immune system?? She eats very well and gets all the proper nutrients. Her ped even suggested a childrens multivitamin...

  1. hey man... parenting aint easy if your kid always gets sick give her more vitamin c (orange juice flintstones vitamins) and get that immune system better.   I was sick allllll the time til like age 8. My mom's the greatest and I'm sure you are. some kids just get sick but she'll grow out of it  i did.

  2. Don't get discouraged.  She probably has a weak immune system and if you don't start doing something now about it, it will get worse with time.  A couple of things, did you bottle feed her? I've noticed a lot of baby's get ear infections and allergic reactions that were bottle feed.  The other thing is have her ped check her out for allergies, she may be having allergic reactions to certain triggers.  But underlying everything it won't hurt to build up her immune system.  Make sure she is not anemic, and giving her a multi-vitamin will certainly help.  Check to make sure she is the weight she is suppose and get her a complete comprehensive check up with a blood panel to check her WBC and RBC etc.

  3. How old is she? My son was sick all the time, too, until recently. He is now 1 year old. He was in a daycare that entire time he was sick so, now I know what was causing all the sicknesses. Is she, by any chance in a daycare? Those places are covered in germs and no matter how clean you try to be, those places aren't clean at all.

She will build up the immune system as she gets older, though. You aren't a bad mom! You take care of her, which is all you can do! Just keep up the good job of nursing her back to health and loving her! That's what makes a good mom so, you are doing just fine!

  4. It could be that you are being too careful.  Babies build up their immune system by coming into contact with germs and viruses.  My baby is rarely sick and her pediatrician attributes it to me working in a pharmacy.  I come into contact with pretty much everything and fight it off, therefore, so does my daughter.

Let her come into contact with dirt and germs and get rid of the lysol and antibacterial soap, they are only making it worse.

  5. i think she has a weak immune system.

the multivitamin would be a good idea.

and make sure that you keep your house really clean, so that if there is like a flu or anything in the air, she wont get it.

dont feel like a bad mother, you cant help it.

it sounds like you're doing a great job! keep it up!

    :)

  6. My oldest was a lot like this too, as a baby and then into preschool. They ended up taking out tonsils and adenoids at age 4. Would you believe that all of the upper respitory stuff nearly went away! I mean, she still gets colds from time to time..but I was truly amazed at what a BIG difference it made.

I know this is not for everyone, but it's certainly worth looking info. I was the same way as a baby, and my mom said I got immediately better once I had mine out.

It seemed to break that throat/ear infection/antibiotic cycle. Just a thought for you.

  7. My friend has two daughters aged almost 2 and the other is 4.  Her kids are the same and she is the best mum to them. Home cooked food, always warm and clothed, wash their hands yada yada yada.  She said she should just let her kids run around, eat at McDonalds and stay out till all hours because what she is doing just doesnt seem to be working. I can only sympathise and say that you are not the only one in this situation.  Hopefully by the time she starts school she will have had all the bad stuff!!!

  8. No your not a bad mother it my be a genetic trate of poor imune systems or a problem that is bigger than just the infections. Good luck I wish you and your daughter the best I hope she gets over this and continue to do what your doing because that seem right to me.

  9. You're probably right. She may just have a low immune system. Get her checked out by a pediatrician and tell them your concerns.

Just the fact that you're asking this question tells me that you are not a bad mother. Don't you ever worry about that.

  10. She just has a weak immune system.  I was like that too.  My mom was picky about who I was around and kept me clean and everything but still I would end up in the hospital sick with a high fever and have tonsilitis and pnemonia and all that stuff.  Highest fever I got according to my mom was 105 when I was 6 months old.  The Dr's couldn't even understand why I kept getting sick.  I was fullterm and weight over 7 lbs and had my shots and was very well taken care of but for some reason my immune system was just very low.  It still isn't all that great and I am 29.  I just have to make sure to take my vitamins.  I have been retested several times for immune problems and everything comes back fine.

  11. You are not a bad mother.  If you are taking care of her properly, there is nothing you're doing wrong.  She might have a weak imune system.  Get a second opinion.

  12. maybe the house is making her sick....I remember when I lived in my other place my 2 kids especially my youngest was always sick,asthma,colds,etc....we found mold in the walls and when asked the landlord to fix it...of course she didn't but thank god we got our HLM (public housing)...and since then they haven't been sick with asthma.....there is proof that being exposed to germs helps build your immune system,so avoiding it like the plague may make it worse when she will start school.... also that children that have never been to daycare before they enter school have more sicks days then children that have been to daycare, even if its a once or twice a week daycare....YOU ARE NOT A BAD MOM.....you are doing what you think is  best for your girl...which is wonderful....has the doctor checked her white blood count....if not get it checked there could be another reason for her being sick....

  13. yes she has a weak immune system but it will get stronger as her body and system is introduced to different bacteria and viruses. don't be so anal and let her eat dirt once in a while. bet rid of the antibacterial soap.
