Why do I get a "Access Denied" when MS is installing Windows XP Service Pack 3?

My system is set for automatic installs (which I have disabled now). I even tried closing everything and went to windows update link and I still got that error message. Then the program uninstalls what it had done so far and says only parts were installed and my system may not operate properly. Does anyone know what gives on this?

  1. Sometimes this is caused by not having correct privileges. You need to make sure you are logged in as admin.

If you want to log in as Administrator, but it is not show on

the Welcome screen, Hold the Ctrl-Alt key and press Del

twice.  This will bring up the normal log in and you can log

    on as Administrator

You may need a password you may not. Then try and install

  2. If you have already been able to install critical updates then you must already be logged in as administrator.  If you are sure this is the case, I recomment that you download your critical sofware updates from Microsoft TechNet.  (Used by professionals).

See if this will work for you. Did for me when I had problem with the auto. updates, or normal windows update and scan of my system.

I actually downloaded 90 critical updates from this link and all were installed, when the normal sources failed to install.
