Why do I get music LaunchCast Plus that are not in the genres I have selected for my station?

I get these "recommended by yahoo" songs that are not in the genres I have selected for my radio station. I understand getting unselected songs from genres I have selected. But I don't want all this other c**p.

Any suggestions?

It's because of your ratings. When you rate, lauchcast start cross-referencing your choices. Like say, Santana would be considered rock, pop, r&b, etc. So when the computer "sees" a song marked rock, it may be the same artist also marked pop, understand? That's why I started clicking on "never play again" instead of rating a 1 or a 2.........

I understand your question.  No matter how many ratings you have, Launchcast is going to feed you a varying percentage of songs that it selects for you that you have not rated (song, album, and/or artist).  SOME of these are the Recommended by Yahoo songs.  Depending on your number of ratings, you shouldn't be seeing more than 1 song in 10 because it is Recommended by Yahoo.

The selection algorithm tries to feed you music from your preferred genres, but sometimes it doesn't do a real good job at doing that.  And recently (within the past 2-3 weeks), Yahoo made a major revision to its genre list, so that might be contributing to your problem.

You ought to be able to "train" Launchcast to do a better job for you by having a "better" ratings profile.  Or, maybe you should review your genre ratings again since they made the recent change, and rerate as necessary.

It would take too long to do a ratings tutorial here, but feel free to drop me an IM or e-mail if you would like some tips on "improving" your ratings so that they give you more of the music you want and less of what you don't want.  This is likely not your fault - the algorithm sometimes isn't particularly adept at dealing with some rating strategies.

1 IN 10.............I'm lucky to hear My genre every one out of ten of THEIR choices!!  The other day I was listening and it played Julie Andrews followed by a rap song using the F word (hows that for variety). I hope it gets better soon because in October when its time to renew, I think I'll save $35.  and not get Launchcast Plus again!!
