Question:

Why do I get redirected to the wrong site when I click on a link after a Yahoo! search?

The link is usually for some site that sells something, or most often, it is a like to an eBay search result for whatever terms I have entered. It only does it on my desktop computer which runs XP. My new laptop does not do this, so I think it must be some kind of bug. I have Norton & I run Ad-Aware regularly, and neither have found anything to combat this. Someone shed some light on this for me!

  1. It does sound like a virus/trojan of some sort.  Try downloading and installing the freeware XoftSpy SE from www.paretologic.com, then running it.  I got a whole set of trojans from an accidentally-installed program, and neither my McAfee anti-virus program nor Ad-Aware picked up on them.  XoftSpy did, and I was able to get rid of them.

Make sure your Ad-Aware definitions are up-to-date.  For awhile, I kept getting "error in retrieval" messages when I tried to update the definitions, and their website suggested uninstalling the program, then re-installing it from their website.  That solved the error problem.  Good luck.
