Why do I get shocked all around my house after walking around? How can I stop it?

I know and understand the build up of electrons and understand the reason why I would get shocked...

What I really want to know is how to stop it.

Are there any air filters that and + charged?

Everytime I brush my hair I have to use static guard just to keep my hair from shocking me.

I am getting tired of walking down the hall discharging myself on doorknobs on the way down the hall just to avoid the big shock at the end of the hall!

THANKS!!

(I went to college for electronics enginering so you do have to dumb tech stuff up for me.) :-)

  1. Are you wearing socks or anything fuzzy or soft like a sweatshirt or something, that sometimes causes friction.

  2. do u have rugs? that could be one thing, also maybe ur socks

  3. The air in your house is dry. Happens a lot in the winter. Get a humidifier.

  4. An easy way to avoid the shocks it to just discharge the static electricity you built up.

If you know that metal door k**b shocks you every time, touch it with a metal key first. The Static Electricity will flow through the key and you will get less of a hit.

Increase house hold humidity will also reduce static electric build up.

If you remove the carpets on the floor, hard wood floors , or tile floors build up far less static electricity.

  5. What tags you is the arc from grounding out. The trick is to prevent arcing. If getting zapped constantly drives you into a psychosis, carry a bare wire with you and let the wire make contact with a metal surface. The charge will go through the wire where it will arc and you wont.

  6. You need more humidity in your house.

  7. Stop dragging your feet on the carpet.

  8. there is a  carpet shampoo that will stop the static build up.

when i used to do appliance repair we were getting a lot of damage to touch panel type microwave ovens from static discharge.

  9. Don't shuffle your feet on the carpet as much.

  10. Wear a football helmet covered with aluminum foil. Just as important, drag an 1 1/4" leather belt around with you. That should do it.

  11. Well are you picking your feet up?  That is my problem.  If you are, maybe you have too much energy and you need to wear rubber gloves! I'm kidding. Anyway, good luck and sorry if this didn' help you.

  12. increase the humidity in your house.  During winter months the air indoors can become very dry and cause excess static build up.  Install a correctly sized humidifier on your furnace, and you will decrease this and your heating bill.
