Question:

Why do I get so winded when I jog at I'd say normal pace?

I jog about 3-4 times a week. At 9 minutes a mile I could do over 5 miles. But when I go to 8 or lower I can't normally do over 1, maybe 2 if I try really hard because I end up running out of breath. What pisses me off is that my coworker did 2 mile in 12:20 in the Army and it makes me feel like a weenie. I've been doing this for about a 4 months now, but don't see any improvement on my times because of the issues I just mentioned. I've had my heart checked and for the exception of metral valve prolapse (doctor said it's so small that it just can't affect me at all when it gets to jogging) I don't seem to have any problems. It seems to get really bad when I go uphill. How do I improve or what do I need to do to get rid of this issue and improve my time? I'm not overweight btw, I'm 6'0" 175lbs.

  1. you're probably breathing wrong. get the advice of a professional trainer.

  2. BEcause you are used to a certain pace and are able to stay there, when you go faster the body cant go faster without some minor problems first, work hard, you can do it
