When lightning strikes near my house there is a huge spark that occurs near a big window in my living room. This has happen 3 times already, so it isn't a fluke. It has occured near the ground twice and once in the air. There are 2 wires, but the spark takes place 2 feet from where they are. Its very loud and seems dangerous. Is it static electricity, does anybody know what this is? It seems dangerous, I don't want my house to catch on fire. I have hardwood floors, can that effect anything?

  1. It is called ball lightning and can just jump off to nothing. I had one blow the cover of a electrical box and just stroll across the room.

In your electric box your neutral and safety ground should only tie together at the transformer. If not current will flow through the safety ground.
