I've never been a smoker. I've taken maybe a dozen puffs in my life. Yet, I get the urge all the time (even before I ever puffed).

  1. it is simply because you are influenced by curiosity, peers, society, trend, and other social factors. you are without a question not addicted, but very curious to try it. you could be influenced by things like your parents smoking and growing up around it, or your friends.

i felt the same way two years ago, then tried it, liked it, and quickly got addicted. nicotine is more addictive than any other common psychoactive so it is very easy to get addicted. though i dont attest to smoking, i quit after two years because i started to feel more and more unhealthy. now i simply smoke socially and occasionally, which is much healthier and less mindless than dependent smoking.

as strong as the influence to try it is, i suggest you dont although it is your immediate choice and i would not loose respect for anyone who starts.

  2. Nicotine is powerful ****.  So is our culture's view on smoking (that you look cool as h**l doing it.  C'mon, you do.)   That's what drew me in, when I smoked.  I felt so d**n cool doing it.  But now that I've quit, wow, I feel so much better physically.  It's horrible for you.

Feeling the need to do something cool is almost exactly the same feeling as a real cigarette craving.  The two are almost indistinguishable.  Subconciously you trick yourself into feeling that your friends.. and even strangers will think you are cool or badass for committing the ultimate health sin.  Then you realize you're just an idiot.
