I'm 22, female, and the pain completely dissapears when I stop or walk slowly. I've played tennis and never had this pain when I play. It's only when I walk fast or run. It is sharp and painful. What do you all think it could be?

  1. It sounds like a side stitch to me. The usually come out if you are dehydrated, working really hard, not breathing correctly, or not eating correctly. Of it could be a mixture of a few of those things. Make sure you are getting enough water into your system, sip water all day you don't have to chug a bottle down, when every you pass a water fountain stop for a few secs to take a quick drink. Any time you start to work hard you are obviously going to have to breath harder. And this may sound silly but the way you breath for tennis is different than the way you breath for running. In tennis you body is used to when it has to hold its breath for a split second and when you take deep breaths. But when you go into running your body really doesn't know what its doing. You have trained it for tennis whether you realize it or not and now you have to train it for running. Everyone breaths differently while running, you will just have to find what works for you.

Now when you get a side stitch try this to get rid of it. Put your arms above your head, than take a nice big deep breath and lean to the opposite side that is bothering you (if your right side hurts lean to the left) When ever I get a side stitch I do that a few times and the cramp will gradually go away.

  2. I know you think it is something serious but this happens to a lot of girls. It takes a lot of walking/running to not have this pain. I play softball a lot and i never feel it either... but when I do nothing but run for about 30 or 40 min. i feel a pain in one of my sides too. It stops when I stop. This happens because it is one of the longest, hardest. out-of-breath exercises you can do. It is totally normal... running definitely does hurt... make sure you eating and drinking enough too though!!!

  3. OKay, I get  those when I jog my daily 20  miles sometimes. Its called a stitch, which means you are pushing yourself to the limit. If you get these from just walking fast, you need to jog more,an try speed walking a mile or two. Stitches are when your muscles contract where you don't need them, making sugar, water, and  some oxygen stop going there and start going to your legs and heart.

  4. It sounds like you get a stitch in your side. It's completely normal and it just means that you've really exerted yourself. Lots of people have them (including me) and I don't know of anything you can do about it besides walk it off.

  5. it could be that you have a cramp and walking does help

or it could be a cyst, i had one and it hurts really bad but when i turned certain ways it went away.

The only way to find out if that is the answer is to go to the doctor.

  6. You should have a doctors check up. It is dangerous and fatal to have that kind of problem.

  7. oh, don't worry.  This is nothing weird, it's just a simple "stitch" or cramp.  This could be from incorrect breathing while running, or if you  ate or drank too much before running.  Try breathing differently while running, or maybe don't each or drink right before you run.

    hopefully this helps!
