Question:

Why do I have backspin on my serves?

I have used the Continental grip for my serves and I stopped doing kick serves (hurts my shoulder) and found more pleasure( and comfort) with hitting flat serves.

However, I keep noticing that in some serves, the ball bounces very low, bouncing twice before the baseline while it has 90mph speed. How did that happen? How do I prevent it?

Maybe is it suppose to bounce like that (I probably got used to the high bounces from my kick serves) ? Did I hit too early or too late? Snapped at wrong moment? Pronating incorrectly? Any thoughts?

  1. simply try tossing the ball more out in front of you, does wonders where your toss is located

  2. You probably do have backspin on your serve, the fix is to add a little slice to it.  This will make it faster, it will have movement, and it will be harder to return.  Just move your toss from directly in front of you, to slightly to your right (if your right handed).

As far as timing, i would say your late. Try to fully extend your arm, and lean into it.

  3. yup if ya hit it flat it will have a back spin action coz the ball react that way as the string brushes the ball in a downward motion.

To compensate the slow motion action, hit it harder for an ace

  4. idk

  5. beuse u prolly did somthing sorta like a slice on accident it happends to me somtimes

  6. It might be the pronation but you could be just mistiming the snap in the wrist.  If you are not snapping your wrist downward just before the impact, then that might be the problem.  Give it a try and see how it goes.

  7. If your gettin 90 on your serve thats great and I'm guessin this is on hard courts so b/c your hittn it flat the ball will skid ranther than bounce as on a kick/slice serve
