Why do I have difficulty urinating when I take my Oxycodone?

  1. Oxycodone is in the opiate family.

    These drugs work on pain receptors in the brain.

    In some people the receptors that allow the bladder to relax to allow you to urinate, get a bit too relaxed. Making it very hard for the detruser nerves to relax and allow the flow.

    The easiest thing to do for this, is to get in a nice warm shower or bath and relax.

    We use this in the hospital after running tap water doesn't work. And THIS does work.


  2. It doesn't appear to be a recognised side effect, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

  3. This is a common side-effect with this drug. Urine retention. It might pass, or you than may be urinating more than normal.
