Question:

Why do I have dust clumps all over my room?

My bedroom has hardwood floors and there is literally clumps of dust all over the place mostly along the edges of the walls. I also use a medium sized air filter unit that is suppose to collect the dust but it doesn't seem to be working. Areas behind my computer desk and behind my tv entertainment center are the dustiest spots. What can I do to prevent these dust clumps from forming?

  1. There's really not much you can do other than investing in a hand or broom vac to make vacuuming the area  a little easier each day. Otherwise you could invest in special allergen reduction filters for your heating/cooling system that helps with dust or purchase a really good air purifier to help with the dust. It probably won't completely eliminate it though.

    Best of luck to you.

  2. I have found that ceiling fans send the dust bunnies to certain corners of each room.  I use a swiffer duster to get them up every couple of days.  Also, computers and tv's are dust magnets and they are a constant source of collections.  My air cleaner works but there is only so much it can handle.

  3. Go over your floors once a day with a push broom.  You can pick them up at any hardware store.  Because they are 24" or more wide, it will only take you a matter of minutes to go over the floor, and you will not get this build up.

  4. My husband and sons have TONS of computer equipment, and we have nine TV sets at our house.  The electronic equipment collects dust all the time.  It collects worst around the wires on the floor.  I use a Swiffer hand held duster, and really, I could dust the wires and electronic equipment every day.  I get down on my hands and knees to to get in and around the wires. It also depends on how old your house is, and if the air ducts have been cleaned.  Before this house, we lived in a historic home that was 110 years old.  I had rolling gobs of dust every 3 days or so.  We had the air ducts cleaned, and it improved just slightly.  Our home now was built 30 years ago, and it is much better as far as dust goes.
