Why do I have such a hard time pimping (selling) myself?

I want to be a columnist/writer and I have blogs, etc but I can't pimp myself out like I see so many others do (myspace group notices etc). I see these people getting what they want but I think that kind of stuff is unethcial (on par with telemarketing).

Maybe you associate pimping with prostitution, and you don't want to degrade yourself or others this way.

You need to think of some ways to market yourself in a respectable and effective manner.

You need to make yourself stand out, but also appeal to people at the same time.  What kind of things are you writing about?
