Why do I have such intense headaches and my neck feels so tense?

I wake up with a headache almost every day. My neck just hurts so badly. I work in an office on the computer 8 hours a day. I am comfortable when I sleep. I get 7-8 hours a night.

But my neck and upper back feel SO tense and I have the worst headaches right behind my eyes. I wear contacts. I am not especially stressed about anything.

I take 600mg of advil, but it doesn't aleviate the pain at all.

What should I do? I haven't gone to the doctor for it.

  1. you should def. go to the doctor as severe headaches and neck stiffness can indicate a problem. usually a headache is just a headache, but since you are getting them as soon as you get up and they are very severe you should make sure its not more serious than just headaches.

  2. For the pain, I would try Goody's powder.  It is in a blue and white box at most pharmacies.  It has ibuprofen, acetominiphen and caffine and since it is a powder it starts working quickly.

All of the computer time might be the cause, but since you said behind your eye balls, I'd also consider allergies/sinus problems to be the source.  My dad and brother get raging headaches sometimes that start in their eye sockets and run down their necks.  They both swear by the goody powders.

I hope you feel better soon.

  3. I am not a doctor. I think it could be two things.

    1. Being on the computer so long each day.

    2. Your pillow could be the cause.
