Question:

Why do I have these spots . . .?

Well just three days after i cleaned my guppies tank, I found blue and orange spots on the tank! I bought one of those all in one kits (2.5g hex my dad bought for me -_- we have a 20g tank in the living room and its stocked.)

Well after I did the cycling and all that junk, i added two male Tequila Sunrise guppies. They have been doing fine, apparently thriving (they look like it) and I have a dwarf mondo and a little Greek column thing they love.

Anyway I went and checked them and the tank had some orange and blue spots on the tank, and on the filter tube. I have no idea whats up, so any suggestions and is it threatening?

Thanks

  1. your turning into one of the guppies ahah

nah its most likely an infection or a rash

  2. Sounds like a fungus use some blue metil to help to get rid of them and check it more often. Do you have filters and water recyclers installed?

  3. I'm guessing the blue is a greenish blue and the orange is a reddish brown, in which case this is nothing more than diatoms, a kind of algae.  This is very common in new tanks as the levels of nitrogen from fish waste rise, fueling algae growth.  The best thing to do for the first month (or until your ammonia and nitrite levels are consistently 0 ppm) is to frequently change about 50% of the water.

  4. It could be a fungus, ask an aquarium, I'm sure they will have somehting to fix it.

  5. I am not sure, there wasn't something in that water that usually isn't there. You didn't add too much of a certain chemical or anything? If I were you I'd reclean everything to make sure...I wouldn't want to be out the fish and possibly more...I don't know, maybe someone else on here knows more about it than me. You might take their advise instead.
