It's a Uniden set of 3 phones the base and 2 extensions, I'm just wondering why the instructions tell me to charge it for 15-20 hours seems a bit excessive...but am I risking electrical shock or the phones dying early if I don't?

  1. It's not really necessary to do it, technically.

The manufacturer advised so just to make sure customers wont get disappointed the first time they will use the unit. The product's battery is half charged when it left the factory. The phones  are at their best when their batteries are fully charged.

A customer may not be satisfied if the battery will drain so quickly unknowingly the battery is not fully charged. Got the logic?

Phone batteries wont get overcharged. The handset is monitoring it's battery and stop the charging when the battery is full. Don't worry.
