Why do I have to restart my modem so often to re-establish my broadband connection?

Modem: Dynalink 1335

All lights solid including power, dsl, ppp and ethernet

Sometimes I have to leave it off for several hours and then restart before I can get a re-connection.

PS ; what does PPP mean exactly?

We are in Tasmania - can't get ADSL2 at this stage. I wonder if its because the line is just getting too congested with traffic?

  1. It might be a defect in your modem or something.  Maybe check with your Internet Service Provide to see what they think.

  2. Before doing drastic changes i.e. re-install of software provided by your local ISP, try doing basic trouble shooting.

It may be as simple as disabling an option to disconnect when idle or changing an option to not logoff when computer is idle. Check with your local ISP if there is such an option.

With regards to your other question, Point-to-Point Protocol or PPP, is a data link protocol commonly used to establish a direct connection between two nodes over serial cable, phone line, trunk line, cellular telephone, specialized radio links, or fiber optic links.  Find more information at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point-to-Po...

    Good Luck!!!
