Question:

Why do I keep having this type of dream?

This is quite hard to describe, but here goes:

This dream always happens when I've just gone to sleep. It goes like this: someone is always chasing me and I know I can never get away, or someone is going to attack me, or something feels very scary - I know it's just going to happen. What is consistent in all these dreams is that I somehow become aware that I'm dreaming, and in my dream I start to scream, and try to move my body to wake my sleeping body up. But my body won't move. The more I try to relax, my head starts to spin, and then I do eventually wake up. When I awake, I usually feel very scared and need to put a light on, or sometimes I have woken up screaming, or shaking my partner from fear. Is it possible to know that you're dreaming while dreaming (because it feels very real to me) and to try and wake myself from that dream because I know something bad is going to happen in the dream. It's very weird and happens 2-3 times per week.

Why is that going on?

  1. You have sleep paralysis.  Back in the olden days, you might have been killed for fear of being possessed.

I've had it happen to me twice, once on a plane and once in my bed.  Both were bad.

Typically caused by stress.  Read the wiki page on it.

  2. i know it's just a dream while im dreaming weird right?

so i know that if someone kills me in my dream im still gonna be alive when i wake up because i've learned that im only dreaming

  3. um I would try, since you are aware that it is a dream, to face what it is that is causing you this fear in your dream.  Like, instead of trying to wake up, just ride with it or instead of running in your dream, dream yourself doing the opposite and see what plays out.

The only way for it to go away is to confront it.  Right now you are running from the unknown.  Maybe it is time to get to know that which you fear.  Remember, it is a dream, and it won't harm you.

    You can do it!

  4. That sounds like Hypnagogia. It's distressing but not uncommon. The unfortunate thing is that anxiety about the condition tends to help maintain it, since it's stress related, but the good news is that understanding what it is thats happening will often make the sufferer feel better and the symptoms decline. Yes, I'm another Wiki man in this instance! Read up about it here:

  5. i have the same sort of dreams and sometimes although  they are holding a gun and i try to run so fast to a certain place that i can never get there i go on running in slow motion or i try to hide from them and they find me but i dont know why i get them so im just as baffled

  6. it's called Lucid dreaming. you're aware that you're dreaming.

you either realize you're dreaming at the end, or you go right into a dream after being awake and you don't realize it, but you're aware that you're dreaming.

idk about the scary stuff though :/

  7. I used to always have this dream and now I know why so I can help you out!

It means your trying to get away from something you don't like. Whatever this thing is comes in quite frequently and you just don't enjoy being there and experiencing it. It could be something as serious as a job that you don't like or it could be something as ridiculous as a breakfast you don't like.

Being aware of the fact that your dreaming is that you have taken total control of your emotions and that your exceeding your control over it. You know your dreaming and after a while you want to move but you cant. That's you trying to 'create an ending' to your dream. You wan't it to end happily instead of a disastrous end. You can never move in your dream and that is one of the ground rules when you dream, especially when your in a situation that brings out a lot of emotion.

It is possible to know you are dreaming because your brain is taking control and to stop those after effects, you need to condition your brain to tell you that nothing will happen to you and that its a dream! You are in virtual world inside our head. Try it with letting the dream go without trying to 'wake up'. If it ends horrible, continue tring to 'wake up' and if you keep telling your brain after you have realised in your dream that it is a dream, you should find the after effects subside.

    Good luck!

  8. Our dreams mirror our real life - but not exactly.  Something in  your life is making you anxious or fearful.  Find out what that is, try to remedy it and the dreams will stop...I promise you this.

  9. Obviously... you are having a bad dream.

To remedy this... try to change routine of your daily life.

       a) The things that you do.

       b) The things that you eat.

       c) The things that you watch.

       d) The things that you read.

       e) CHANGE your HABITS before going to sleep.

And try not to eat too much at night.

If you have problems on your real life... try to face it... one at a time and try to solve it also.

If you can't solve your problems alone... then at least confide it to a friend... it will lighten your load.

Most of all... PRAY before your sleep.
