Question:

Why do I laugh at inappropriate moments?

Whenever someone is having a serious conversation with me, is hurt, is telling me a sad story, has something bad happen to them, etc., I find myself laughing. I don't take pleasure out of it, I don't find it funny, and I'm not nervous, but for some reason I laugh anyways.

Anyone know why that might be?

  1. I'm not sure, you know, I mean I'm never nervous, or anything but I just laugh. I hate it! I've been trying to figure it out, but I think I just like to laugh. Sorry I couldn't tell you anything!!!

  2. then you have no reason to laugh. stupid questions deserve stupid answers.

  3. You're not alone. I do it a lot. It is because you are in a serious situation, and you aren't in that serious mood. So you laugh because it is awkward.

  4. Because you have no self-control.

You need to develope some more self-control by learning not to laugh at others stories (when theyre not funny)

  5. It's your way of dealing with the information you're taking in. I am a very easy going guy who laughs a bunch. Sometimes I laugh and people get offended, even though I meant them no harm. Instead of dealing with the sad or angry, people like you and I try to extinguish the situation with laughter.

If you want to stop this, try and focus on the other person and what emotion you perceive they are conveying. If you can figure out they are having a sad moment, try to not laugh. But I just let people know that I laugh in many situations and they usually understand.

  6. It is a nervous habit. Your anxiety comes out in the form of laughter. I had a friend who was like that. She laughed at her best friend's funeral. It was horribly embarrassing for everyone.

  7. because your soul less like me. i laugh bc that's like a self defense mechanism whether you admit it or not you are nervous, uncomfortable, and that's your reaction it doesn't mean you have claimer hands to be nervous this is just the way you express it.

  8. I do the same thing. Part of it comes from my childhood; when I would stub my toe or skin my knee, my mom would laugh. she knew I wasn't hurt, eventually, I learned to laugh at myself (releasing endorphins in the brain that help fight pain). But it carried over into my adult life. It's okay, the only thing that makes your laughter "inappropriate" is your conditioning; if you feel like laughing, laugh.

  9. ....there's something wrong with you

  10. i dont know i do that too. i think you just dont know what to do or say. or maybe your just nervous.
