I have all my paper work done: passport;downloaded visa application, pictures, cashiers check, return envelope, but why do I need a visa? I've gone to www.vietnamembassy, but they don't explain why you need one, just that you need one. Anyone know? FYI it's cost an an additional $ 176.25 (Visa $65.00 each, photo from local PO $15.00each, prepaid return envelope $16.25 each)

  1. Hey, as the other Answerer wrote - their country their rules - why all this immigration papers to visit the US?????

They don´t want people to cross their borders without control and they don´t want to let everybody in to keep the status of the safest country in SE Asia!

  2. Their country, they get to make the rules.

  3. ehehehh .. You DO need a Vietnam VISA unless you're a VIETNAMESE CITIZEN. Where do you live? you can just go to the your local travel agency and get one for a cheaper price. BTW, Only a couple countries get to enter Vietnam w/o a VISA. The REST of the world will need one... This is not only for VIETNAM.. It applies to CHINA also. :)

In additional, if you're not the citizen of that country.. you will need a VISA to enter. For ex, if you're a green card holder and want to travel to EUROPE, she does need a VISA to enter all those EUROPE coutries.

  4. Let me guess… This is your first time traveling to another country isn’t it? You’ve been getting some weird answers because your question is elementary to those who have traveled to another country.

Basically, a visa is permission for you to legally enter another country. A visa will be required depending on which country you’re from and which country you intend to visit. A stamp in your passport or paperwork that you carry while traveling tells those in the country you’re visiting that you are allowed to be there. There’s also a level of protection that comes with a visa. Vietnam is pretty strict on providing documentation while traveling and especially if you’re a foreigner. This is not to harass you but to protect you while traveling through the country.

Your prices for a Vietnam C-1 (tourist) visa are a little off. You should pay for only one (1) visa @ $65 unless you’re paying for someone else as well. You can save yourself about $10 if you get your passport photo from someplace other than the post office.

I would recommend that you let a travel agent handle your visa this first time. Travel agents that know what they’re doing will get everything done for you at cost or for a few bucks to cover their time and trouble.

Good luck and have a great trip!
