Im gonna be going to a barbecue to meet my brothers future wife's family. I should be excited but instead I'am planning to take some adderal to make sure I have a good time. I do this when I'm depressed because I don't wanna go and be all quiet like I do when I'm depressed or anxious.

  1. It's probably because your brain is chemically imbalanced. You are one of the lucky ones who could figure which medication is helpful.

But, to answer your question, your brain lacks  endorphine, aka as the hormone of happiness. So, by taking meds, the level of endorphine is increased, allowing you to feel better.

You should keep in mind that our body is ultimately made by chemicals and every intake it's going to cause some sort of reaction. Including the water you drink and the food you eat. So, technically, if you eat right and have sufficient fluid intake, your brain should be functioning good.

My advice to you is to read Daniel Amen's book, Change Your Brain, Change Your Life. It helped me a lot to better understand the human brain and I learned how to do maintenance work on it. You can find videos on youtube with him as well.

  2. Don't worry about it. If the medication helps you, then take it. Go and enjoy yourself. Don't sweat the small stuff. That's why they make the medicine: so people can use it when they need it.

  3. You need drugs to feel better for one reason: you're looking for a quick fix.

  4. Why do people with high blood pressure need meds?

Why do people with cancer need meds?

Why do people with heart disease need meds?

Why do people with gastrointestinal illnesses need meds?

Why do people with diabetes need meds?

Why do people with infections need meds?

Answer?  To get better, feel better and live productive lives.

Mental illnesses are no different, certain mental illnesses are hard-wired into your brain through genetics and environment. It is now fact that even if you have no genetic predisposition for mental illness, early child abuse, physical, emotional, or sexual, changes your brain FOREVER. Meds and therapy help alleviate your symptoms.

Now imagine a life 50 or 100 years ago when there were no meds for the illnesses I mentioned including yours or mine? We would be living very short and painful lives.

Be glad that there is help for you, don't p**s on that help.

    Much luck to you!

  5. A lot of people with depression have a chemical imbalance in their brain that causes symptoms like lack of energy or anxiety.  Needing medication to correct this is no different than a diabetic needing insulin - don't let yourself feel at all guilty or ashamed for it.

    All the Best.
