Why can't I concentrate on my major instead of doing some courses that are wasting my time. Why do I need to study some humanities?

  1. our education systems demands so in the first place and most importantly education is not about knowing only one subject but its applications to every branch of other stuff in the world and influence it greatly for the good of the humanity.

  2. To give you a well-rounded education and broaden your horizons.

  3. The purpose of general education is to prepare you to have a broad understanding of what goes on in the world--that is why you have the choice to take history, philosophy, religion or any ot the other humanities.  You are not "wasting your time," but rather learning how to think critically, a skill that will remain with you (if you actually decide to learn it) for the rest of your life.

  4. I used to also ask this question, but I have come to learn that making general education classes a requirement allows students to have a taste of other courses other than what their major and minor.  This might change some students' minds about what they want to do for the rest of their life.  You might not have ever thought about being a sociologist, but because you took that intro course your freshmen year, you really want to pursue that now.

It opens your eyes up to new choices in life and it also allows you to be a well rounded and diversely educated person because you have taken a variety of courses.

ALSO....they are the easiest classes you will take in college, so do well and make all A's in those!
