Question:

Why do I need to tip at Starbucks?

I am just thinking here... I don't tip the person at McDonalds who makes my burger and they likely get paid less than an employee at Starbucks. Why should I tip the person at Starbucks? Isn't it their job to make my coffee? They aren't like waiters/waitresses who make less per hour because they anticipate tips...

  1. I worked at Starbucks while in college. Those tips come in handy for a struggling college student. So next time you think it's ludicrous to tip, you might help someone get textbooks :-)

  2. Because if you don't they'll put a booger in your Latte.

  3. WHAT! Tipping at Starbucks is the most ludicrous thing a person can do. Why would you need to tip them if your coffee already costs the price of a small TV?

  4. I DON'T tip at Starbucks.  That is absolutely ridiculous.  They are not going above and beyond the call of duty by making me a cup of coffee.

  5. your very nice... but why would you tip them!  it's not required!

and they don't do c**p for you!

  6. It's not mandatory.  However, if the person waiting on me has been especially pleasant, I will round off my tab to the nearest dollar and let them keep the change.

  7. No, do not tip. If people want tips, they can work in an American restaurant. I make 60-80 from eleven to two PLUS my $3 an hour. HOWEVER. I have to pay for my own health insurance- $241 a month.

  8. You don't need to tip them. This society has gotten tip happy. There are tip jars everywhere, especially at deli and food counters. Many of them say that they are for "the crew". When did we start tipping people behind the scenes? It's not enough now a days to tip just service people and delivery people but everyone wants one. I can maybe see it at the holidays but not everyday of the year.

  9. You tip at Starbucks?

I find that odd. You're right, they do get paid and it is their job.

What is the obsession with tipping in America? In the UK and Europe, you tip at restaurants, and where I live in Switzerland you generally only leave a tip of a few francs, and that's it. We find tipping strange and unnecessary...

  10. no need to tip them.

  11. People don't tip anymore at Starbucks...  I used to in the past.. they are not allowed to take a tip.. you can put money in a special donation jar if they got one .. but it's no longer permissible for Starbuck staff to accept a tip...x*x
