Question:

Why do I not have a Local Area Connection on my Desktop?

On my desktop all I see in network connections is the wireless connection and a virtual connection from Hamachi. On my laptop I see this too but ALSO Local Area Connection, even though it is unplugged.

Why not on my desktop? The motherboard has onboard LAN and the drivers for it are all installed and up-to-date.

According to Microsoft it should appear automatically, but it has not.

Thanks

  1. 1. you could have deleted it or 2. you could have disabled it.

If both are not, then open your network connections in control panel to see whether you have a lan connection there. If there is, right click on it. Then check show notifications below, you should see your connection in the system tray.

  2. There should be some settings to be done i.e. configuring the LAN(ip address, default gateway e.t.c.).Right click on my network icon, properties, scroll down on that small window, click TCP/IP n click on properties to set the configuration.

  3. by default when its connected  in XP does not show the lan connection in the systray it only shows when it is not connected

If the internet is working this should be no problem you can enable it to show whether connected or not in network connections on the properties of the lan

If its not connected and it does not show its disabled go to network connections and right click then enable
