according to my parents, I am vietnamese. however, every vietnamese person I have met (besides my own family) does not look like me in at all. they have more of a southeast asian appearance (darker skin, bigger eyes, flatter nose, etc) while I look very much east asian (very pale skin, more slanted eyes, high/more narrow nose) so I have been very confused as to why I don't look like them. everyone always assume I am japanese, never vietnamese. why do I not look like them? is vietnam homogeneous as korea or other countries?

  1. maybe there's a white man in the wood pile your mother won't admit to.

  2. maybe your either mixed with eastern asian or your family is from near the northern part of vietnam

  3. There is a high probability there was someone of a different ethnic descent in your family's history - maybe someone from Japan or other Asian country. While it is possible for people from one region to appear different even though they don't have mixed heritage, mixed heritage is very common around the world and ethnicities are mixed so that people don't necessarily "look" like they come from a particular country or region due to the international travel and interracial marriages and families, etc.

  4. maybe ur great great great grandparents are from Japen..idk
