  1. The people owning the franchises can charge for ketchup if they wish. You can, in turn, not buy the ketchup.  Maybe if enough people refuse to shell out the 20 cents, the restaurant operators would offer it for free again.

Besides, you  more fast food choices than just McDonald's, even in Europe..

  2. First of all... there are a lot of countries in Europe and they're all different.  Also, you can't compare charges and prices for anything - from one country to another; there is no relationship.  Everything is priced differently from country to country.

  3. Because European countries are socialistic and they have to pay for all those programs somehow. They tax the heck out of businesses and those costs go back to the consumer.

Barack is planning on doing the same here yet he still has his blind followers. They don't realize that THEY are going to pay for all his socialist programs.

America ain't broke so don't try and fix it.

  4. I guess maybe the country you are in right now isn't as better off as the one you live in. or maybe its shipping costs.

  5. Don't know!  But you pay the same in Italy as well!!

  6. dose mutha fuckaz racist

  7. omg r u serious! thats so retarded!

  8. lmao

  9. It's not free. The price of the ketchup--and all those extra napkins you swipe, is figured in already into the price of your Big Mac.  You just get to pay twice in Europe.

  10. The Parisians use mayonnaise on their fries -- maybe that's why, they're trying to make you conform.

  11. That's why the ketchup board needs to send missionaries to Europe to enlighten them as to the profound beauty and perfection that is ketchup.  Buncha' savages, they  just don't know any better!

  12. omg..wow

  13. Which country exactly are you reffering to?

I never had to pay for ketchup at McDonald...

Beside, I'm French and I'd rather use mustard with my fries (I don't know about that myth about mayonnaise).

I wish they would serve beer in USA...

  14. I thought you only had to pay that for extra packets because they cost so much to ship from McDe's manufacturing company, but that may not be the fact I'm not sure.

  15. What!? that sucks!

  16. Probably some tree huggers trying to keep those little squeeze packets from littering the neighborhood.  I don't know why ketchup should be any more expensive in Europe than in the US.  It isn't as though you have to import it from the US.  Maybe Europeans don't use ketchup?  In Canada they dip their fries in vinegar.  Ewww!

  17. It's down to the individual franchisee as to whether they charge for ketchup or not.

I've visited many McDonalds restaurants in the UK (which last time I checked was part of Europe), and I've never been asked to pay for ketchup.

  18. What's your address? I will mail you some ketchup for free.

  19. they discourage to have more ketchup

  20. I am actually laughing my **** off here at how much some of the people answering this question have taken it to heart, People are saying like the government is trying to rob us. I live in europe, and i don't see what all the fuss is about!? Especially as where i live ketchup is ACTUALLY FREE!!! Maybe you were just unlucky in the McDonalds you went you. If it is such a problem just don't go to McDonalds... it's not very good for you anyway if eaten regually,

  21. It is very likely that the food already costs more in England.

However,I noticed that some Mcdonalds charge for specific sauces and others dont.

Essentially ,the branch will charge whatever the market will stand.Demographics plays a part in the pricing structure globally,in some areas, the locals may have an objection to paying for extras whilst others accept this as the norm.

  22. I belive it has to do with shipping/taxes..if I were you id go no ketchup ;)
