It's an old gf, who I'm certainly not in love with anymore, but whenever I start a new job, move home or undertake something which radically changes my life, I find myself thinking about her all the time. Why?

  1. If you want my guess.... she was an important part in your life at one point. Starting your job, and all these crazy changes make you think of her because you know she would have normally been by your side during all of this, if you were still together.... and you obviously miss her!

  2. Something was left unresolved and at the time you still had feelings for her. These unresolved feelings still makes you think of her. Sometimes this person becomes our inner critic, whenever we judge ourselves in a situation this person crops up, it's like they are a object of our insecurities. Kind of hard to explain.

  3. It's normal to do that. You're likely (subconsciously) thinking what your life "might" have been like with her in it. Happy or not.

You may not be in love with this girl...but you do still care about her. She's a part of your past therefore she is a part of who you are.

  4. Maybe because you always felt like you were trying to live up to her standards? Or she was really a friend.

  5. Freudian psychology would state that you have an unresolved issue with that person that you need to resolve.

  6. I think she was an important part of your life and you did a lot of things together. Now, when you do new things in your life, you feel like you should be doing them with her and you feel 'odd' because she is not there to share your experiences with you. Maybe you just miss her.. =]
