I am an Indian born in USA. When I went to the Yahoo Answers India Page, there were so many questions by you Indians of how to get a whiter skin color. This is just absurd, and everybody thinks so. So my question is... why DO YOU GUYS WANT TO HAVE WHITER SKIN COLOR?

  1. We always want the opposite from what we have.

People with curly hair, go and have it straightened.  People with straight hair, go and have it permed.

Fair people want to be dark and go to far away places to get dark.  It projects wealth (because they have the money to go to far-away places)

Fair people buy 'fake tan' in a tube, so they look more attractive.

Dark-skinned people don't like to go in the sun, as it is associated with labourers (so they say).  Some (Chinese)wear an umbrella to avoid the sun.

Dark-skinned people buy 'whitening cream' in the hope to get fairer.  They have their skin peeled, abrased, and acid treated to get rid of the dark complexion (Michael Jackson).  some even go as far as to take medication to reduce the melanin production.

Why do they do it?  To be different!

Just go ahead all of you who want to be different and feed the pockets of the companies that produce all that gunk to make you fairer than the fairest ;)

    ".."

Oh .... BTW.  those who want to attempt to have their skin peeled, be warned.  Some part of the skin gets lighter, while other parts of your skin remains dark.  Then you can join the 1,001 Dalmatians, hehe

  2. all the human beings think in the same way...

even extra-white people go for sun tanning... for having a balanced colour of skin...

nevertheless, we should not be carried away with the craze for fair skin...

  3. YA ,I agree with you there's no sense in having same complexion like being more whitter or like that.

  4. This is an old thing that should be forgotten but many backwards families still carry on. Still advertised in india is products that might melt your face. But its promoted in bollywood which is sad. I have met light skinned pakistani/indian girls and they had the worst attitude imaginable like they were royalty and no one should speak to them. Also if you live in predominantly white country i think media and social has an influence on indian females. Maybe they feel insecure looking slightly darker with all the white models and actresses. But in general, someone who is more concerned about their skin shade is a waste of time. It shows their level of thinking, which is shallow. Not much to offer but light skin and stinking attitude

  5. In a country where the dominant culture has white skin, people who do not have that trait will alter themselves to look as if they belong to the dominant culture, despite the negative health effects. For example, African-American women frequently use hazardous chemicals on their hair to make take the coils out of it all because white people have hair that grows straight.

This desire to fit into the dominant culture is heightened by the general human desire to covet the possessions of one's neighbour. This base human desire can be seen in white people tanning, whether artificial light or lotions or the harmful rays of the sun.

  8. Iam also an Indian not black, but wheatish. It is natural that everybody prefers fair looking persons (Doesnt mean white skin). But I like all those with beauty inside (not outside). Beauty lies in the eys of the persons who watche somebody.
