Question:

Why do Japanese people prefer fake nothings to real somethings?

They hire people/actors to be their grandparents, and give a sense of family, and so they save on a trip to the country/village and see the real folks. They hire pets that children can play with for the weeend and then return on Sunday night to the pet store - can you imagine what loving dogs that easily give affection must be going thru? If all else fails they get robots to do the rest - act as pets, friends, confiantes, and what not.

The rest of the world still seems to be plugged in to real life and real people and i've only ever read such bizzare stories coming out of Japan, so I wanted to know what makes them so disconnected enough to do these things and think its normal?

This is a real question not meant to offend anyone. I love the Japanese ethics of efficiency, generosity and my father worked with a Japanese firm for close to 20 years. I also love sushi - so there. I am genuinely curious about this and would love if a Japanese person who doesnt take it personally could educate me.

  1. they are creative ppl, japan rocks!

  2. I lived there for more than (2) years and it was my impression that most Japanese people were very shallow & fake. This kind of information doesn't surprise me in the least. They also have one of the highest suicide rates in the world and about that "efficiency" - they are forced to work 12-hour days by their company. That "efficiency" is nothing more than worker exploitation. They do make nice technology though.
