  1. The chefs need some break also!

  2. I donn't know of any Japanese or Indian restaurants closing between the 3 and 5pm for reasons other than regrouping for the evening trade.

  3. It it likely not specifically because they're Japanese, Indian or Pakistani restaurants, just that restaurant footflow is lowest between 3-5, particularly with smaller restaurants, i.e. everyone's done with lunch and haven't come for dinner yet. As the above poster said, they probably do need a break!  :)

  4. The Asian and Indian form of Siesta..

  5. It's probably the only time they can spin together as a family.

  6. they closed for pray

  7. I worked for a Japanese restaurant and the same chefs/cooks work the lunch shift and the dinner shift.  They usually come in at 9 or 10am to prep and cook for lunch and then come back at 4pm to prep and cook for dinner.  It's a long work day and your break is during the closed hours.  We closed from 2pm to 5pm.

  8. I read a kids' book about this the other day. Those cultures close their restaurants and shops in order to nap for a while.

  9. the same people who worked lunch will probably work till closing.  snore time.
