Why do Jockeys have to wear long sleeves when they race in the hot weather?

Why do Jockeys have to wear long sleeves when they race in the hot weather?

Just protection from dirt and also if they fall down. It'll be nice if they can get NASCAR type cooling gear.

rocks and dirt get kicked up by the horses and if the forearms arent protected they could get small cuts and scrapes and that could lead to an infection

I would assume it is the same reason they wear a helmet. Falling off a horse going full speed or debris can't be pleasant, any protection helps.

If they fall they could skin there arm pretty bad. They were sleves to protect there arms.
