Why do Koreans shower 2x a day?

I am hosting a Korean student for the 2nd time and want to know why do Koreans shower 2 times a day. Both the students showered before bed and first thing in the morning.

well, not only koreans do,but i think other asian people also. it is because we are hygienic. of course you take a bath first thing in the morning before you do stuffs out side. and then after you go home at night, after all the things you did you'll feel dirty and all so you take a bath before you go to sleep to feel refreshed.

I'm not Korean, but European, Caucasian, and I do shower twice a day.

Here are my reasons to do it.

Morning shower: I use lukewarm to cool water to rejuvenate the skin and to boost the blood circulation. This is the least I can do to be more active and energetic from the morning.I also walk to school.

Evening shower: Use hot water to open the pores and cleanse not only my face and neck, but the whole body. And , very important, it helps me to relax, as if washes away the stress.I can't sleep if I don't shower before going to bed.

Well, these are my reasons: effectiveness and personal hygiene

um i'm a korean and i tend to notice my friends are neat freaks which i'm not used to since i just came back from texas after 2 1/2 years. long time ago in chosun dynasty the people were obsessed with purity and stuff so i guess they washed a lot. like when praying for a baby or something. so i am guessing they decided to keep the 'tradition' going. i personally think that's absurd.

There are many dusts , pollutants in the atmosphere and humidity is very high in Korea.

I think it is just korean thing... raised that way... all my korean friends and my (Hyung) shower twice a day.. now I have gotten used to it and that is what i do... plus i dunno they have an accute smell lol they can smell bad oder like instantly and they will let you know! haha so yea.... its just korean thing.

Ha ha...who knows? My friend is totally obsessed with being "clean". I mean, I shower every morning but my friends are on a whole new level. They get all these beauty products out, even the guys. I think its because a lot of them have been taught to be "clean" and really image conscious. Way to build strong self-esteems Korea by pointing out their every flaws.

Because they don't sweat the same, and stink more.  Plus it's really humid there.

Well, I'm not entirely sure why the shower twice a day.

I do, however, know that it's not just Koreans, but also people from Thailand (Thais? Thailandians?). I knew a foreign exchange student once and she was kind of creeped out by our habits in Texas of only one shower a day. I asked her why they shower twice in Thailand and she wasn't quite sure. Seems she just accepted it, kind of like I accepted the once-a-day shower thing without questioning the tradition.

Perhaps in the morning it's to rejuvenate and fully wake-up, and in the evening a more cleansing experience. Living so close to the ocean, I doubt there as as many droughts. Most likely though, just a cultural habit.
