I'm filipino myself and have almost all my friends who are Chinese and even coworkers that I don't really asssociate with make fun of those families that order a ton of rice with their dim sum. It's so funny because eating rice with dim sum is like eating rice with pasta or eating rice with a potato.

IT JUST DOESN'T Make sense. They think those families are Mexican but I know they are Filipino cause I can hear them talking..My dad's business partners are Filipino but they know better- they travel a lot.

My friends always say it's like eating a bowl of noodles with potatoes in other words..and I agree, they need to know what's up!!!! Sad!!

  1. I'm mixed Chinese and Filipino living in Hong Kong and I don't think we do that lol. oh btw, i love dinuguan and galong-gong haha. Come! let's have dim sum sometimes and i'll introduce you to many types of chinese food.

  2. because rice is a staple food of filipinos.

  3. Filipinos always have to eat rice to consider it a full meal, and since dim sum usually contains meat, technically, meat dishes are generally considered as viands or "ulam", so rice can always accompany it.

  4. many filipinos do that because dimsum usually meat and you know that meat is always good with rice. :)

  5. Because rice comes with every meal! It's like our natural condiment with everything we eat.lol... I'm not sure but I think the rice is more of the "main entree" while everything else is the side dish....

  6. Actually there is nothing wrong with eating dimsum with rice. It's one of those Filipino eating habits that other people might think as weird or at least odd; such as eating "pancit" with rice. We should just accept the fact that different people have there own distinct, unique ways of doing things, either as part of their culture or simply because it works for them. Chinese, Americans, Mexicans, etc. too have habits that other cultures find as dirty or at least "strange".

I believe that we should simply respect other people's quirky habits. As long as you're not harming anyone, then it's alright.  As far as I'm concern, I will respect what ever that tickles anyone's fancy.
