  1. The MPs only stand up when they want to ask a question or say something to the PM.

  2. It's either out of respect or they're signalling that they have a comment that they would like to express. Otherwise, the parliament would just be a screaming mess.

  3. They're trying to catch the eye of the Speaker, so they can be called to ask a question or make some contribution to the current debate.

  4. They're trying to catch the speaker of the houses eye, to indicate they want to speak next

  5. To catch the eye of the Speaker.  Not everyone has been put down on a list to speak, it's at his discretion who to choose.

  6. it's due to the history of the debating society, do you not have one in school? if you have something to say, why sit down? the speaker has to acknowledge you, and you may be introduced to a debate.

    xx

  7. There a number of reason but normally :-

    1) To appose, for example when that PM/MP answer is touch on sensitives issue or out of the topic.

    2) To support,

    3)  To get speaker attention, to ask additional question to that PM/MP.
