Why do Mosquito bites itch?!?

me and my boyfriend got in an argument because i thought i heard somewhere that something in it's saliva that makes it itch but he disagrees... what is it?

It is something in their saliva. The saliva (containing enzymes) injected when a mosquito bites causes our bodies to produce a histamine response. We have a slight allergy response, and thus our skin around the bite area gets itchy.

(Histamine is a protein involved in many allergic reactions).

Some people develop more serious allergic reactions, but this is less common.
