Why do Mosquito bites itch?!?

me and my boyfriend got in an argument because i thought i heard somewhere that something in it's saliva that makes it itch but he disagrees... what is it?

  1. It's from the saliva that Mosquitos leave when they bite. You are correct.


  2. It is something in their saliva. The saliva (containing enzymes) injected when a mosquito bites causes our bodies to produce a histamine response. We have a slight allergy response, and thus our skin around the bite area gets itchy.

    (Histamine is a protein involved in many allergic reactions).

    Some people develop more serious allergic reactions, but this is less common.
