Question:

Why do Mountain Lions make a "bark" like sound?

I went to the Zoo today with my son and we saw a couple of Mountain Lions. One of them was pacing by the fence and making a 'bark like sound'. Why do they do this? It sounded like a small dogs bark. May be it was half of a Meow/Growl...I don't know. But it was cute, but yet a good thing there was a fence because it did look at us like we were DINNER SPECIALS! LOL

Anyone out there who knows about these sounds and what they could mean?

  2. they always do that when you get to close to the area!!

  3. Cougars (mountain lions) are the largest of the cats that still meow and don't "roar."  This was probably the fiercest sound that the cat can make since it's not technically a "big cat" and cannot roar like a lion.  They are pretty scary though.
