  1. I don't remember seeing it in the Olympics but I can guess its origin.  People used to bite coins to see if they were real.   The metal winners do this as if to say "I can't believe I've actually won the real thing!"  I think it is a great tradition.

  2. What? I never see this...

  3. because its been tradition. an athlete started at the 1936 olympic games and since then everyones done it

  4. they bite it see if it is really is precious metal, usually u do this to gold metal, sometime silver, refer to: http://www.slate.com/id/2136438/

  5. They only do it with gold. Real 24 karat gold is soft enough that you can leave bite marks. In the past, that was one way to quickly test if someone was giving you gold or trying to fool you. Now, it's just a joke, of course.

  6. Yeah, they do it for the joke.

    - Pepper.

  7. Haha, I as well realized this too.

I don't know why they do it? I guess it's to "Taste the Glory" :P lol.

  8. I've seen Gold medal winners do it, they bite it as a joke, making sure it's real gold. Real gold is soft and you can actually bite into it.
