Why do People drive in the middle lane ?

And not move over when the inside lane is clear...even if the motorway is empty they still drive in the middle.. do they think they have a right to be in the middle?, do they think only lorries go in the inside lane?

If the inside lane is clear, they can still drive in the middle lane. And even if the motorway is empty, there is still nothing stopping anyone from driving in the middle lane....maybe they just want to get from point A to point B a little quicker, despite the 70 mile an hour speed limit. And if the inside lane is clear and the motor way is empty, why should a driver even give a second thought as to why only lorries go in the inside lane, if there is nothing there to begin with. Just what is your question all about?

in case they fall sleep, it gives them another 12 foot of space before they fall over the edge.

do what i do, play with them, undertake them then let them go ahead and then overtake them and carry on until they pull in the inner lane panicky

I think they're called 'Dustcart Drivers' Dunno if you have noticed, but dustcart drivers hog the middle of the road, any time, anywhere....maybe its these same drivers who hog the middle lane of the motorway out of habit!! either way....they should be stopped!!

If anyone thinks driving in the middle lane when not overtaking is in any way o.k, then you are all ignorant and idiots.Your a danger to other road users and the main cause of congestion on motorways.I only pray you are in the middle lane doing under 56 mph so i can push you up the bloody motorway in my 44 ton artic.If you are not overtaking...keep to your left hand lane.....have a nice day.

Because they do not wish to be stuck in the nearside lane behind some slow moving vehicle when everyone else is travelling in the middle lane and will not let you out. Essentially you can stick it in cruise control and enjoy the trip, rather than weaving across three lanes. I would rather see commercial vehicles staying in the nearside lane and cars using the other two.

Some people feel safer in the middle lane.  They have plenty of room before they go off the road on either side.

This, I think is a question for those in th UK! People drive in the middle lane cos' they're lazy. they need to wake up.

PS I do say I dislike those who use it as an excuse to brake the law and undertake. "Undertakers bury people"!

In the uk it because they don't know any better.  I think it all started because the lanes were called 'the slow lane' the middle lane' 'the fast lane'  Trouble is that  drivers didn't understand that if the left lane was clear then you must be the slowest driver, so use that lane.

The middle lane of a three lane carriage way is  the correct lane to use, if the traffic on the left lane is moving slower, but one should not block other traffic. The right lanes are for overtaking and the left lane for turning off, or slower moving vehicles-that travel slower then the 70 mph max' speed limit for all lanes. There is no fast lane, as all lanes have the same speed limit. Should use the left lane, and avoid unnecessarily changing lanes. But people will be turning off on the left, so you will keep having to slow for them.

Patience is a prerequisite for safe driving.

If I am driving on highway then I will try to stay in middle lane.because it helps me to change my lane easily any lane at my right or left.Many times we are not sure(specially when we are driving through unknown area) at which side your exit would come.I have noticed this many times that exits comes both sides.It's not necessary that exit will come only left or right side.Staying in the middle is best.This is just my own opinion and exp.
