Question:

Why do Pepsis explode so much?

About half the Diet Pepsis I've purchased since May have been so overly carbonated that they explode when you try to open them. They continue to fizz and fizz until they are flat. There is no stopping them. No matter how long you wait to unscrew the cap again, they always explode until you let enough liquid out, and then they fizz fizz fizz...

Why do they do this and what can I do about it? I don't like Coke, but I'm thinking of switching anyway...

  1. The carbon gas is trapped inside and when the bottle is shipped from the trucks and excessive shaking and rattling agitates the carbon gas (artificial) causing it to explode when you drink.

  2. The explosion is the best part!

  3. Temperature affects carbonation.  It is easier for gasses to stay dissolved in cold liquids than in warm ones (this is why more microorganisms live in the Arctic oceans--more oxygen stays dissolved).  If you don't drink your sodas cold, they might bubble up more than other people's.

Try just barely breaking the seal on the cap and then letting the soda sit.  This will allow the gas to escape slowly without losing any liquid Pepsi.

If that doesn't work, switch brands.  I looked around and some guy in an answer board like this one says that Pepsi has more carbonation than other brands.  I don't know if it's true, but here's the link all the same.

  4. I know exactly what you're talking about.  i buy diet pepsi every day.  what i do is, unscrew the cap quickly and put your mouth over the opening. some of the fizz goes into your mouth but most of it just dies down.  this will leave you with a nice, cold, refreshing, and BUBBLY diet pepsi.

    hope this helped!

  5. Why not try to refridgerate them, it will settle the carbonate.
