Question:

Why do Republicans treat global warming as an unimportant issue?

I am a registered Republican and I am curious as to why the majority of Republicans treat Global warming and pollution as though it is non-existent? I don’t see how any intelligent person could possibly think this is not a problem.

I also have seen litter scattered all over my city (which is prominently Republican) and I detest a wasteful and careless person. I have come to hate my own father because he is constantly littering and is a wasteful, ignorant and utterly, disgusting person.

Fortunately, there are those few people from my school that have organized groups to cleanup the litter strewn all over the streets and even out in the woods on the weekends. It is only a matter of time until humans start feeling the negative effects of the harsh suffering that the world that God gave us to take care of is going through. The fact that people treat it as a garbage dump not only breaks my heart, but I’m sure it breaks his as well.

  1. No one treats pollution as a non issue.  Corporations spend billions on pollution control, energy reduction, and recycling.

People do these things because they are the right thing to do.  Rational people don't need a paternal gvmt telling them what to do.

Anytime gvmt gets involved in problems, the only outcome is that we get more of what we are trying to get rid of and at a greater cost.  Just think how the war on poverty has given us more poor, the war on drugs keep the streets full of illegal drugs, .....

  2. It's a VERY important issue.

Just not for the reasons you say it is.

  3. They don't.

"Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"

"National Review (the most prestigious conservative magazine) published a cover story calling on conservatives to shake off denial and get into the climate policy debate"

"Pat Robertson (very conservative Christian leader) 'It is getting hotter and the ice caps are melting and there is a build up of carbon dioxide in the air.  We really need to do something on fossil fuels.”

"I believe there is now more than enough evidence of climate change to warrant an immediate and comprehensive - but considered - response. Anyone who disagrees is, in my view, still in denial."

Ford Motor Company CEO William Clay Ford, Jr.

"The science of global warming is clear. We know enough to act now. We must act now."

James Rogers, CEO of Charlotte-based Duke Energy.

"the overwhelming number of scientists now believe that there is significant human cause,'' Giuliani said, adding the debate on the existence of global warming "is almost unnecessary ... ''

"(from Republicans for Environmental Protection) The consensus of almost all climate scientists is that global warming is already happening, that human actions are causing it, and that it will cause major problems for our planet."

  4. John McCain takes it seriously, as does Gov. Arnold Schwarzenneger, and one of the Republican governors of New York did, as well as its present mayor (Bloomfield). Teddy Roosevelt was a R, and he took pollution and conservation very seriously.

The business (oil) interests want you to believe that pollution is under control and that golobal warming is a crackpot theory. It isn't. It really is happening, the only "debate" is about how much human beings are contributing to this.  There is some evidence that some of the melting ot the glaciers in Greenland is due to hot spots in the mantle, but this is still being investigated, and doesn't explain the rapid melting of the sea ice in Antarctica.

  5. Don't had ur dad.  Try to teach him.  Do your part and be a good example to everyone in your town.  Read what Gavin said.

  6. Big business interests. You do know the Republican Party is the party of the rich, right? Why do you think they give such massive tax breaks to the rich?

  7. You self-righteous twit. How can you be so juvenile as to hate your father because he litters?

Maybe that is why many in both parties seem as though they don't take global warming seriously. They are just more objective than you haters.

  8. I don't know that you can say all Republicans don't see possible global warming as an issue.  Speaking for myself, I would like to see actual proof that the Earth is warming and that man is causing it.

Right now there are a lot of people out there with a lot of theories..... but NO actual proof.

I personally find it hard to embrace the 'man-did-it' global warming theory/speculation simply because some ex-politician in a suit says so.
