Why do Repubs think they deserve election when they pushed 5 million more people into poverty in 8 years?

The Republican track record for creating a strong economy for good paying jobs sucks. Wages have lagged behind inflation. Everyone I know feels like they cannot do the things they could do ten years ago like put extra money into savings, buy extras for their houses, etc., because they can't afford it anymore. I was talking to a co-worker the other who was lamenting that she didn't dare even buy books anymore but went to the library instead in order to save money. She's worried that she won't have enough money to retire at 65 which is only 9 years away for her.

Why do Republicans think that Americans will vote for them again? They are terrible at economics. Bill Clinton was a master at creating a strong economy.

  1. This is about accountability. If you are living in poverty look at your behavior and I am not responsible to you!  I have my own bills to pay dog gone it!

  2. Clinton brought those people out of poverty by lowering the poverty line.  It didn't put any more money in their pockets.  Bill Clinton also had almost nothing to do with the economy.  All he did was let the internet boom happen.

  3. This is a tremendous overstatement... not sure how/why you think that there's any validity in what you're saying.

Clinton's act of "redefining" poverty and depleting the military's resources while subsidizing other areas of government created a very weak "safety net" for those in need.

Everyone blames George Bush, but think about the various national disasters (like Katrina and other hurricanes) and the past 2 tornado seasons -- he's been there, he's declared a state of emergency before the power was back on so those people could qualify for the federal assistance they needed to get back on their feet.  And don't even get me started on what he had to do/approve to get our military ready to protect our national security, as well as forming Homeland Security and the TSA.... WHERE do you think that money had to come from?

Stop regurgitating the left-wing c**p that you're feeding on and check the facts before you make such (INCORRECT) sweeping statements.

  4. You are a rare breed that actually think's for themselves.

It's people like you that will keep this country from self imploding.

The reality is that since Reagan economics, this economy has seen wages fall behind inflation ever since. When you ship jobs over seas, you give huge tax cuts to the growing rich and continue to cut important social programs...you put the American people at a serious disadvantage and we saw this accelerate under Bush/Cheney.

Republicans need to go! Bring the power back to the people!

  5. I'm sure that some think that those people should always be able to somehow pull themselves up by their boot straps, AGAINST ALL ODDS.  I actually heard a woman call into C-SPAN  this morning  (on the republican line) and say that while she's in favor of education she doesn't think that taxpayers should have to pay for their raises ... wtf?  Seriously, how many people out there would take a job if they thought they'd never get a pay raise? Like somehow inflation magically doesn't  effect teachers.

I hope that the GOP's reign of terror will end in November.

  6. Where do Liberals get their ideas? Whoever gets more votes in November "deserves" to win. That's how it works. This line of questioning (which I see often from Liberals) must stem from their "entitlement attitude". Guess what...you have to form policies in regard to the issues, present them and convince a majority of Americans that you are right...that's how you win an election. No one "deserves" anything. Not me...not you.

  7. American are very bad with managing money and very gullible.  THEY decided to choose to take out variable interest loans that they might not be able to keep.  THEY chose to charge everything onto a high-interest credit card and then pay it off in small installments, with the interest always growing.  THEY chose to blow off all of their hard earned money on lavish luxuries during positive periods of the economy and then complain when they have none left during a recession.

Democrats wouldn't have been able to magically poof away this downturn either =]  It's a part of life.

And plenty of smart, capable, resourceful Americans see that things will only get worse with doubles taxes, and so we vote for the one that has 13 times the experience in governmental money matters as the other =]

    McCain '08

  8. Yeah you are right ... the republicans have personally reached out to the 5 million people you are talking about and they took their jobs away from them ... one by one. They did it on purpose and i think they even made a list to target specific families. It is outrageous how they can do that huh? go out of their ways to personally put people into misery?

Wow ... where is intelligence when you so desperately need it?

Bill Clinton was a master because he did not have to deal with today's China, or today's EU, or the Euro, or the price of Oil, or the huge free trade agreements, or the 911 attack, or the housing market, or the slow economy ... let less the horde of terrorist who swore to eliminate you and me. But hey ... if you feel better about make general and vague accusations without looking closely at the different components ... be my guest.

  9. Why do Democrats think they deserve it because they cannot mange their money.

  10. Yea because Bush caused 9/11, the tech bubble, and the mortgage crisis. If the Dems were in office they would of been able to magically stop those things from happening and saved every homeless person on the street.....right?

The Dems helped to create the bubble...it just happened to finally pop when the republicans were in office. If the Dems were in office the last 8 years the economy would still be in trouble. The only difference would be that we would probably not be in Iraq now

  11. the only state to see a increase in the poverty rate last year was Mich. and it is run by a democrat. in the last 8 years 17 million ppl have become new home owners. 1 million are now in danger of foreclosure.

  12. absolute garbage ! do you have one shred of evidence to prove this c**p !?

  13. Okay, I am a very liberal Democrat, but even I find some mis-balanced statements in your question.

The biggest one is that Bill Clinton was a master at creating a strong economy. For that, I have to say the country was headed into a recession cycle made worse by 9/11 (which I also think was Bush's fault but I won't go into that now) and the dot com bubble was set to burst due to economic factors beyond anyone's control. Gore, in particular, would have had a response to the downturn that could only be described as "flaccid" and in fact was by one pundit.

Now, someone besides Bush would not have pursued an all out war with Iraq, they would have reacted to 9/11 by having special forces turn over every rock seeking out Osama Bin Laden and taken him out. This would have taken some resources but nothing close to the current war price tag of over $572 billion as of today.

I also have to say the price of gas and the war would have been somewhat affected had Gore been in office because, again to be fair, the Gore family has at least as many close personal friends and financial stakes in the Middle East oil industry as the Bush family. So there would have been some corruption there, though Gore would not have been as big of a cowboy abusing his executive powers and doing whatever the f*ck he wanted without concern for the consequence.

Republicans think Americans will vote for them again because if Yahoo Answers is any indication, there are many people who think Obama is dangerous for some reason and who like Bush. They feel Obama has some ties to terrorists (have yet to get anyone to back up that statement with facts) while McCain, who left his wife for a younger, thinner woman with political connections, represents "Good Old American Values."

I hope Yahoo Answers is an inaccurate snapshot of the nation and that those who have always opposed the war and want to see someone at the helm who's in touch with the needs of real Americans will race to the polls in November and make real change.

  14. I believe the Democratic congress had a little to do with it. All Bill Clinton did was take credit for the economic programs the senior President Bush had in place.

  15. Slick Willy's growth was the product of the Reagan Administration according Milton Friedman, the most prominent economists of the second half of the 20th century.

  16. Bush:

-the governor who executed more people in texas than in the rest of the nation combined

-the president who said "the war in Irag will only (ONLY???) cost $80 billion" and now it's almost $80 billion a MONTH??

-the oilman from an oil family and is Cheney's oil-buddy's mouthpiece

History shows that the stock market does better under Democrats.

And Reagan's "trickle-down" economics? what a frickin' joke.  "It's the economy, stupid." Clinton said that in 2000 and it's even MORE true now. Are you better off now than 8 years ago? Vote your pocketbook, if not your conscience. And do you really want McCain and Paleface in charge? Puh-LEEEEEEEZE.

  17. of course the democratic house and their legislation had no part in passing the laws. you need an education in government proceedures.

  18. americans suck at saving money, they put everything on plastic

and nothing big happened in the past eight years either...9/11 was a small event

why do we always need "extras" and more stuff?  why do we need more more more more more more more more more, why can't we just have what we need through life and be happy with that, knowing we are not in debt.

the library makes sense, I mean half of the times the books just collect dust anyway, how often do you reread the book...

do we really NEED everything or do we WANT it???

Why do we overwork ourselves and hardly take anytime off to be with friends and family?  Maybe this is why we are such a depressed nation.
