  1. because it's an exception to the 'i' before 'e' rule.

  8. It could be the fact that some people are illiterate and or can't spell or they  choose not to for reasons known only to them.

  11. Because the "rule of thumb" for spelling words with the letters I and E says, "I before E, except after C" but the "rule" doesn't always work!

    People shouldn't feel too bad when this rule doesn't always work.  Albert Einstein was a genius, and his name's spelled wrong in 2 spots if you use this rule.

  16. i before e except after c.... it was a catchy novel idea to help young children remember how to spell but there are exceptions and weird is one of them so are

    seize, sovereignty, vein, feisty, kaleidoscope and neighbor
