Question:

Why do Serbians like Karadzic?

This is genuine question because I'm really interested to know why?

I was surprised by how much support he has in Serbia. I thought nobody liked him, but many do.

OK, according to me and most non serbs he is evil mass murderer that killed thousands of Bosnians..

But even from Serb view he must be bad, because:

1)He led Serbs into war that led to many Serb deaths and sufferings as well.

2)He was too much of a coward to turn himself in, and made Serbia suffer years of isolation because he refused to go to Hague. If he was so sure of himself he would not be afraid of the Hague. And if he loved really loved his Serbs he wouldn't let them suffer for him.

3)When he was in hiding he practised a very dubious 'trade'

I'm really curious to know after all Karadzic did to Non-Serbs and Serbians why there are people that still support him.

I know that there are a few Karadzic fans on yahoo answers. I would be really interested in your reasons. Thanks

  1. Because he did his best to defend Serbia against muslim terrorists.

  2. I am a Serb and I think you have your points wrong.

    1) The war in Bosnia was created by certain countries (read: USA, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran) which offered Bosnian Muslims a country under their central control. The Serbs wanted not to be under Bosnian Muslims. The Bosnian Muslims were used as carnage for the creation of such Bosnia. There were little less than 100,000 killed people in Bosnia of which 60,000 were Bosnian Muslims and 30,000 Serbs.

Thus, he was leader, but how would anyone manage in a war?

    2) What does his turning in have to do with Serbia? Why do you think that the two things are naturally connected? You think that the four years of total sanctions, the bombing, media satanization have to do with Karadzic himself?

I am sure of my innocence, but every Serb is guilty in Hague... Hague is a political court aimed to chop down the heads of those who lost the war, in order for the winners to wash their bloody hands.

    3) A "dubious trade" would rather be called the practice of politics...

There was a war going on in Bosnia. People killed people. To understand the issue, first try to understand why was there a war.

    ML:

As far as Gotovina and Tachi go, how can you draw a parallel between the three? Why not draw a parallel between Karadzic, Izetbegovic and Tudjman? Tachi was a terrorist, while Gotovina was lower in command.

  3. First of all he is not a war criminal.Second he led Serbs in their defense from fanatic Bosnian Muslims.Third he didn't turn himself in because he had some sort of agreement with Richard Holbrook and then again why would he turn himself in to a court that is anti-serbian?As for dubious trade,I have no idea what you are talking about. He was practicing alternative medicine, that's all I know.

To make a conclusion,Karadzic is a man responsible for half of Bosnian territory in Serbian hands nowdays.Serbian nation will be in his debt forever.

  4. Ok. I am against racism of any kind. I do not support Karadzic in his idea and believe that Muslims and Croats are bad or evil. I don't. My grandparents and parents on the other hand do because they were victims of same if not worse violence. And the people that were destroying there lives were Croats and Muslims. And they arent paying for what they have done. And Serbian war leaders are. So that is just not fair. And as I see it, if those people that ruined my families life are in prison now everything would be very different. in the so called Storm Croats killed and banished 150.000 Serbs from there homes and I don't see them in jail. So tell me, please, why shouldn't Serbian people support Karadzic? People who do are the people whose lives were ruined in that war, people who lost their closest friends, members of their family, their lovers and their Serbian brothers and sisters. Trust me, there aren't many people that agree with his tactic of cleaning the world, but... In case you haven't noticed Serbia is always put on the last place. Is that OK? No. That is my answer.

  5. Karadzic has no fans; he's not a showbiz star.

No need to worry your little head with such things as "why" - it'll be enough to look around and see your own compatriots supporting people like Tači and Haradinaj. Ask them why, because we here in Serbia sure can't figure it out. (This is not meant as a parallel, but an illustration of how every nation stick for their own, but have no understanding for the others in this conflict).

As for the serious answers, people before me already gave you enough information to process. In your little head, I mean.

  6. Of course he has support in Serbia, and he always will!!!

He is as much a war criminal as Tudjman and Alija Izetbegovic, bu nobody even mentioned that they deserve to go to the Hague.

Karadzic didn't turn himself in because that court is anti - Serb. Serbs are guilty even before it is proved opposite. The same court let Tachi go, for God's sake!!!What are we talking about? But, Tachi has the States to look after him, Serbs never wanted to give up some things just to be accepted by the USA.

You are not Serb, maybe you can not understand it, but Serbs are really old nation, they have their heritage they are very proud of, and nothing can make them feel different.

And, Karadzic is part of all that, he tried to protect his people in Bosnia, the way they all did(when I say "they", I mean Tudjman,Alija,Gotovina...), but, are the Serbs the only people that should be judged? Are we all the same, or, maybe not?

  7. 1st of all one can't generalize this kind of question.

I guess a portion of Serbs like him because he saved a lot of them.

Other than that I do not know.

We have here a very interesting new sociological behavior where people that haven't really been role models become popular.

Nevertheless this is not a Serbian monopole.

Croatians are also obsessed by their fellow criminal Gotovina is praised through the whole of Croatia.

Also, albanians in Kosovo have the same thing for the war criminal Hashim Tachi.

So I'd say that it is some kind of regional specificity.

    ---

I am not drawing any parallels between the 3, I just stated the other two as an example.
