Is it purely for companionship or is there something else?

Two beggers on the street, wouldn't most give to the one with the dog?

  1. COMPANIONSHIP - whether poor or rich (or other economic status), humans are creatures of community and communication, excluding the random among us who prefer solitude.

It's perfectly normal to seek out the company of someone or something..........just think, why are you here?

  2. The dog helps to keep them warm at night

  3. why do people have dogs. Homeless are people as well so why sudnt they not have  a dog

  4. Friends, like mine.

  5. I can imagine being lonely and finding a dog that has no owner. The homeless person can imediately identify with it and respect its company. There is also a feeling paternal/maternal responsibility as it has needs that are easy to meet. It provides warmth, safety, companionship, and more simply a reason to live.

I think that very few homeless get a dog to beg with. They would probably get a job if they wanted money that bad. I guess it is a perk but not a reason.

I hate to say this, but I think it is true. Some homeless use dogs for s*x. I know this is very disgusting and what not, but you have to remember that they are homeless. They don't shower everyday, brush their teeth, wash their clothes, or have structured relationships/friendships. They are outcasts of society with different norms and reasons for living.
