Why do South Indians Hindus wear lungis?

Indian Muslims (North and South) wear lungis as do South Indian Hindus; however, when it comes to hindu religious ceremonies, dhotis/veshtis are required for South Indian Hindus? What is the history of this? Who wore the lungi first... Hindus or Muslims?

  1. Lungi or Khaili, is a north Indian dress, originated from the Muslims. In South India, it is used as a casual wear.  


  2. In south for religious ceremonies brahmin that wear dhotis.

    In south India dhoties are known as doubles and wearing same like lungi.

    South indians mainly sudras wear lungi, like people from africa-somalia,sudan ethiopia,

    arabs especially yemenis and omanis

    almost all asians-srilanka indonesia malayasia thailand burma etc wear lungis

    but north indian mainly aryan or dominated by aryans use differently.
