Why do Spain and Mexico have cities with the same name?

For the same reason that the U.S. and England (and other countries in Europe) have places with the same name:  Settlers gave old-world names to new-world places to make the new world more familiar and/or to honor places and people back home.

The Spaniards came to Mexico in the 1500's and colonized it That's why : )
