  1. Because America wasn't independant, and Queen Victoria was in charge at the time the Native Americans were being killed, treaties were being made just to be broken, general warfare, etc. Not that Victoria was involved in anything like the way Hitler was.

  2. Didn't know that was the case... ???

If that's true, maybe because Queen Victoria represents England which is where many of the settlers came from, while Hitler never actually did anything to them, and they didn't see him as a threat. Or maybe because it was during the Victorian era that much of the action against the Native Americans was carried out?

  3. I have absolutely no idea.  Queen Victoria had nothing to do with America, since America had long since broken away from British rule.  The only reference to her having anything to do with native Americans that I can find is that she enjoyed Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show when she saw it at her golden jubilee in 1887.  and she watched a game of lacrosse in 1876 and enjoyed it.  that's about it as far as I can make out.

And to the person who said she was dreary and not amused, this is absolutely not true.  She actually had a great sense of humour and was quite liberal in many of her opinions (though she strongly disapproved of what she described as the "mad wicked folly" of women's rights.)

  4. They don't.   This is propaganda in some of the university classes.

  5. I've always liked hearing the viewpoints from different groups of people. I find them fascinating because they often are so different than what is commonly considered the "right" one or that is the most widely accepted by society. I recall that boxer Muhammad Ali refused induction into the US Army in the 1960s. He showed up before the draft board but said he would not go to Vietnam. He said the reason was that he had no personal grudge against the North Vietnamese. After all, these people had never used racial slurs against him or made him sit at the back of the bus like what happened with him in his own country.

  6. Really....I'd never heard that.  I know that some of the residential schools were very ugly and the Aboriginal North Americans were treated in a horrible manner but I had no idea that they held Queen Victoria personally responsible.

I guess that just shows how terrible my knowledge of history is.  I'm curious though....can you post a link to more info?
