  1. because UPS doesn't want people to know the trucks they use are crappy gm's.

  2. Actually, the design of the truck is owned by UPS, it's copy written for their exclusive use when new. (they seldom re-sell their used vehicles) as such, the vehicle is built under contract by numerous different manufactures (and not always the same ones) to the UPS specs. No one manufacture is entitled by design or contract to put a visible badge on it. Sterling and GM are usually the predominant manufactures of the mechanical aspects, the body is made by a number of different plastic, metal, and fiberglass fabricators.

Not that this has anything to do with the question, but kinda interesting none the less- Most rental moving trucks are owned by UPS and FED-EX and leased out to U-Haul, Ryder etc. The condition of the lease is that on demand, during times when the number of packages exceed what available tucks can handle, (like at Christmas) the company can commandeer the trucks away from the rental company. This way UPS never has a shortage of available trucks, and doesn't waste money maintaining a reserve fleet, instead the reserve fleet is out making them money during the rest of the year!
