Why do US style pool cue balls have all those spots on them?

Whats the go with them not like the blank UK cue ball or snooker ball?

  1. the dots are used for english so you can see where to hit the ball.


  2. The Red spot on the cue ball is to show others the direction in which the ball is spinning.  You normally see this type of cue ball in tournaments on TSN to let the viewers see what English the shooter is putting on the ball

  3. I think you're talking about measle balls. The little dots on them make it easy to see english and if the ball is doing what you intended it to do.

You have probably been watching the pool on TV and the ball being used has 6 red dots on it......most others have only 1.....the reason is for you to better judge the spin or "english" on the ball when stroking.....it also makes it easier for me as a spectator to watch some really good players and observe the stroke of theirs to learn as to how they get the ball around.....the other cue balls don't give you a clue at times.....hope this helps!!

  5. no clue what you are talking about.

    play snooker all the time in America and every cue ball I have seen has been cream white, zero markings of any type.
